Sparsh Hospital is a national tertiary referral centre for complex trauma services dealing with a large number of neglected trauma and the sequel of complications of primary management. With an advanced trauma transport, the medical and the paramedical staff manning the trauma transports are trained in every aspect right from on accident site to safe and efficient transportation, to monitoring of the patient in the ambulance and communication with the hospital. We are also linked to the EMRI ambulance(108) system.

The 24-hour trauma care facility has state-of-the-art ambulances with a paramedic team and advanced communication system to monitor from moment of primary contact, transit and arrival at the emergency ward. Fundamental features of the Sparsh trauma service include prevention through education, safe and efficient transportation, skilled and dedicated surgical intervention, scientific and customized rehabilitation.

In addition to this, Sparsh Hospital has installed infrastructural and process support in the following ways - an air ambulance/helicopter facility, a strategically located casualty, a preliminary cleaning area, special lifts to the operation suites and diagnostics & radiology, special resuscitation room and a counseling room for relatives

A good trauma center should have the availability of a range of specialists to give the best to every injured patient. Here at Narayana Health City this unique feature is carried out with ease as over 1000 nursing professionals and 500 doctors are available on campus. The facilities available at this campus are outstanding in the state of Karnataka.

All the staff in the emergency room have been trained in BLS and ATLS resulting in patients being efficiently triaged and managed in the emergency department. The team includes the intensivist, orthopaedic surgeons, general surgeons, neuro surgeons, nursing staff, theater technicians, radiographers.

Another unique feature of our emergency department is an immediate response to pain. A regional anesthetic block on arrival quickly provides relief to the injured patient, if a block is not possible parenteral pain relief is quickly instituted.

Sparsh hospital along with the govt of Tamilnadu (a public private initiative) are managing a trauma resuscitation center in Hosur.At this center primary resuscitation and stabilization of patients prior to transfer to a hospital of their choice.

A truck loaded with 95 people went to a border town for a funeral. On their way back the entire group was inebriated including the driver. The truck driver, while negotiating the twisting hill side roads on the way back, lost control and the truck plummeted into the valley. While twenty people lost their lives instantaneously seventy five people were rushed to the nearest hospital. Mass casualty of this kind is a challenge is a rarity. Twenty of the passengers with the most serious and life threatening injuries were moved to SPARSH Hospital on the request of the Government of Tamil Nadu. Mass casualty of this kind is challenging and a hospital's Mass Casualty Plan is tested for real. SPARSH Hospital has a Mass Casualty Drill which is practiced regularly. The patients were admitted at midnight. Overnight the entire team of SPARSH Hospital came together and led by the Trauma and Emergency Services Team rose to the challenge. The entire casualty ward was opened up and expanded and the day care ward was converted into an additional casualty ward. An intervention strategy was devised and implemented. Over the course of the entire night all the patients were resuscitated and stabilised effectively. Over the course of the following week all the admitted patients were operated on and set on a recovery plan. All of them survived and were discharged over the following four weeks. In appreciation of the effort representatives of the Government of Tamil Nadu, along with a Minister, visited the hospital to show their appreciation for the hospital's efforts. It remains testimony to the ability and willingness, inherent trauma skills and team work that SPARSH Hospital has the capability of leveraging in emergency situations and crisis's like this.
