Dr. V S Prakash is a highly accomplished cardiologist with a distinguished career of over 3 decades in cardiology.He is currently working as a Senior Consultant Cardiologist at SPARSH Hospital, Yeshwanthpur, Bangalore.
He completed his MBBS from Govt. Medical College, Bellary in 1981 followed by MD (Gen Med) from Bangalore Medical College in 1986 and a DM (cardiology) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal in 1993.
He previously worked as the Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bangalore. He also held the position of Professor of Cardiology at M S R Medical College & Teaching Hospital.
He has also served as Consultant Cardiologist at various reputed hospitals such as Mallya Hospital, St. Philomena’s Hospital and Wockhardt Hospital in Bangalore.
Dr. Prakash’s expertise encompasses a wide range of cardiac interventions, including primary PTCA and complex coronary interventions, advanced heart rhythm disorder management, advanced pacing, systems, ICD systems, and biventricular pacemaker implantations. He is a pioneer in HIS Bundle pacing, cardiac conduction system pacing and has performed numerous procedures in this area.
His extensive qualifications and fellowships in cardiology societies across the globe, demonstrate his commitment to advancing cardiac care. He has a strong research background, having been a principal investigator in various cardiac studies. He is also an active member of multiple cardiological societies and has received prestigious awards, such as the Mahindra & Mahindra/Nightingale Award, Economic times Award for his contributions to the field of Medicine. With over three decades of clinical experience, Dr. Prakash is a leading figure in the field of cardiology, known for his groundbreaking work in catheter-based ablation for atrial fibrillation and his significant contributions to the advancement of cardiac electrophysiology.

Achievements In Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology:
- First in India to perform catheter based ablation for atrial fibrillation in 1999
- Performed over 350 cases of PV isolation (LACA)- for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation,
- 155 cases of LACA+ LA roof line/ endocardial CS isolation and lateral mitral isthmus line for persistent/chronic atrial fibrillation
- Performed ablations for complex arrhythmias such as atrial tachycardia in post mitral valve replacement, percutaneous epicardial mapping and ablation for complex ventricular tachycardia using 3D electro anatomical mapping (CARTO)
- Permanent pacemaker implantation:
- Over 1500 VVI, 1050 Dual Chamber and 5 biatrial pacing as single operator.
- ICD and Heart failure device implantation:
- 175 ICDs and 180 biventricular pacing.
