Dr. Robert Patrick Selvam is a Medical Geneticist with a strong background in Clinical Genetics, Genomic Medicine, Prenatal Diagnosis, and Molecular Diagnostics. He holds an MBBS and MD (Pathology) from St. John’s Medical College and completed his DM in Medical Genetics from Kasturba Medical College, one of India’s leading centers for genetic medicine.
During his superspecialty training, Dr. Selvam gained extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of genetic disorders, congenital anomalies, hereditary cancer syndromes, and inborn errors of metabolism. His clinical experience encompasses prenatal genetics, fetal anomaly evaluation, genetic counseling, and advanced genomic testing including chromosomal microarray analysis, next-generation sequencing, MLPA, TP-PCR, and biochemical genetic investigations.
Prior to pursuing Medical Genetics, he trained in Pathology at St. John’s Medical College, where he developed expertise in histopathology, hematopathology, cytopathology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular pathology. He contributed to laboratory quality initiatives, NABH/NABL compliance processes, and multidisciplinary tumor board discussions, fostering a strong foundation in precision medicine.
Dr. Robert has actively contributed to academic medicine through presentations at national and international conferences, including the European Society of Human Genetics, where he presented novel research on neurodevelopmental disorders. His research interests include rare genetic diseases, hereditary anemias, neurodevelopmental disorders, clinical genomics, and pharmacogenomics.
An enthusiastic educator and researcher, Dr. Robert has been involved in establishing innovative digital pathology and virtual learning platforms, organizing academic programs, and contributing to diagnostic assay validation. His work reflects a commitment to integrating cutting-edge genomic technologies into clinical practice while ensuring compassionate, patient-centered care.
Driven by a passion for advancing genomic medicine in India, Dr. Robert continues to focus on improving the diagnosis, management, and counseling of patients and families affected by genetic disorders, while contributing to research and education in the rapidly evolving field of Medical Genetics.
