Dr Gunasekar Vuppalapati from a Humble family of farmers and teachers in a remote village, dreamt and became a Doctor on merit, then General Surgeon @ Coimbatore Medical College, where he was inspired by the miraculous plastic surgery work of Prof CN Ramaswamy & qualified in Plastic Surgery from Stanley Medical College, Chennai in 2002. Since then, He operated on thousands, Restoring the Form, Function or both as in birth defects, deformities, hand injuries, Replantation of fingers, hands, lower limb trauma reconstructions, Cleft lip/palate repairs, Head & Neck, Breast Reconstructions, Burns in the early Years of practice and then acclaimed for his Aesthetic Surgeries enhancing whether it be Facial, Breast or Body Aesthetics in the later years to make them more acceptable and pleasant. His attention to detail in his Aesthetic work that produced some shining stars in the young stardom which further attracted many senior artists for their ANTI-AGING procedures. Now he has Super stars and the who’s who his clientele with purpose built celebrity suites for their grooming breaks.
During his stint in UK till 2007, He had experienced a very high standard of care especially for the Burns victims while working in St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery & Burns, @ Chelmsford, Essex, as well as the WW II Era hospital Queen victoria hospital @ East grinstead, where he witnessed survival of upto 93% Burns, still remains a distant dream in India. On his return, he could not produce the same result for Burns victims due to lack of adequate funding, support and dedicated infrastructure in private hospitals to treat burns nor was there a supply of cadaver skin as there was no SKIN BANK at all. Hence, He joined hands with ROTARY BANGALORE MIDTOWN, Victoria hospital to put this basic requirement SKIN BANK in place for the first time in Karnataka in 2016.
He shifted his practice from Apollo to his own Clinic in the name of DrGVG Aesthetic clinics @ Jayanagar in 2008 & elevated to a purpose built facility @ JP Nagar 7th phase in 2017, called “GVG Invivo Hospital”, PROBABLY the 1st Hospital for Anti-aging and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in the country.
He has joined hands with Sparsh Hospitals in 2025 to extend his rich experience and Surgical expertise to build a state of Art Department of Aesthetic & Reconstructive Plastic Surgery to all the patients in need of his expertise choosing RR Nagar, including elite clientale of Sparsh Hospital
He has to his credit Publishing articles in American and British Journals of Plastic surgery, made several International presentations in UK & Europe including the one to Royal College of Surgeons of England, London in 2004, European Burns Association, Lisbon in 2005 and addressed the Italian Society of Plastic Surgeons on a Cruise Conference on the coast of Genoa in 2006.
Most importantly, He is known amongst all hand Surgeons in the world for his discovery of an ARTERY in the Hand called “Commissural Artery of Webspace” and developed a flap called Commissural RDMA flap which made it to the top 10 downloded article in 2004 with more than 100 citations in the journals there after. This discovery was made in his research on Cadaver dissections on 44 hands in a 15th century anatomy lab in St Pare, PARIS, France.
Now he is dedicated to GVG Invivo Hospital@ JP Nagar & Sparsh Hospital @ RR Nagar for his Aesthetic, Trauma, Burns, Oncoplastic Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. He also does voluntary work through Human Healing foundation for the health related charitable work and Rotary International for Social charitable work.
