FAQs

Who is a radiologist and what do they do?

A radiologist is a doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating a disease by using medical imaging modalities. At our Imaging Department, many of our radiologists have completed a sub-speciality training, after their residency.

Radiologists work with your personal physician to perform the exam that best fits your condition. They will recommend treatments or further scans, if necessary.

Who is a radiologic technologist?

A radiologic technologist is a medical professional specially trained for planning and acquiring necessary images for a diagnostic test. A technologist conducts your exam and then a radiologist interprets your medical images.

Can I speak with my Radiology & Imaging radiologist?

Your radiologist is always available to you and your referring physician, before, during and after the test. He or she will help your doctor by interpreting the test results and facilitate your physician to take the next recommended step in your treatment.

What time do I need to arrive for my exam?

It’s necessary for you to arrive 30 minutes before the procedure in order to complete paperwork and prepare for your examination. For some procedures like a contrast enhanced CT or MRI scan, patients need to arrive earlier as the scan requires 90 to 120 minutes of preparation. Please check with your physician for specific instructions of your exam.

How do I prepare for the test?

  • Wear comfortable clothing. You may have to change into a gown for some examinations. Metal objects like jewellery, dentures and hairpins affect the images. When you can, leave those items at home. You may also remove them just before your exam.
  • It is extremely important that you bring previous relevant studies. The radiologist needs to compare the current exam with previous studies so that the information provided is clinically relevant and may also eliminate the need for further studies.
  • In case of pregnancy and foetal imaging, it is mandatory to carry a valid government ID card as required by the PC-PNDT studies.
  • X-rays and CT scans involve ionising radiation. The risks of the same will be explained by our technician prior to the scan.
  • Contrast studies require the administration of iodinated or gadolinium contrast, the risks and benefits of the same will be explained by the technician prior to the scan.

Who will be performing my tests?

Diagnostic radiography, mammography, DEXA, CT and MRI scans will be performed by a trained radiologic technologist and the same will be interpreted by a qualified radiologist.

Ultrasonography and colour Doppler examinations will be performed and interpreted by a well-qualified radiologist.

How soon will my personal doctor know the results of my exam?

Different tests take different amounts of time for interpretation. While in case studies like ultrasonography, mammography and colour Doppler imaging, the results are provided within 30 minutes of the study. Special investigations like CT scans, MRIs or contrast studies require longer duration. Your exam results reach you and your doctor as quickly as possible. When it is a medical emergency, the results are intimated to the referring physician immediately.
