Overview

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on correcting misaligned teeth and improper bite relationships. Properly aligned teeth not only enhance facial aesthetics but also improve oral hygiene, chewing efficiency, and overall dental health.

At Sparsh Dental Department, we provide comprehensive orthodontic care for children, adolescents, and adults using modern techniques and customized treatment plans.

SLEEP DENTISTRY

Management of sleep apnea in dentistry integrates principles of craniofacial growth, airway physiology, and dental sleep medicine to diagnose and manage conditions such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

OSA results from repeated upper-airway collapse during sleep, commonly associated with reduced pharyngeal volume, retrognathic jaw position, soft-tissue crowding, or neuromuscular dysfunction. Airway orthodontics plays a critical role in early detection and intervention by evaluating maxillary width, mandibular growth patterns, tongue posture, and nasal versus oral breathing habits in children.

Orthopedic expansion and guided jaw development can increase nasal airway volume, enhance oropharyngeal patency, reduce mouth-breathing tendencies, and positively influence craniofacial growth trajectories—thereby lowering long-term risk of sleep-disordered breathing and reducing the likelihood of future surgical interventions.

In adults, mandibular advancement devices (MADs) function by anteriorly repositioning the mandible and associated soft tissues, enlarging the upper-airway space, decreasing collapsibility, and improving ventilation during sleep. These oral appliances provide an evidence-based, non-invasive alternative for patients intolerant of CPAP therapy or those with mild to moderate OSA.

By integrating growth modification, airway-focused orthodontics, and advanced oral appliance therapy, sleep dentistry offers a multidisciplinary approach to improving airway stability, sleep quality, and overall systemic health.

In some patients, addressing vitamin deficiencies—especially Vitamin D, magnesium, and certain B vitamins—can improve muscle tone, energy, and breathing efficiency during sleep.

By combining airway-friendly orthodontics, breathing therapy, nutritional guidance, and advanced oral appliances, sleep dentistry offers a holistic approach to helping patients sleep better, breathe better, and feel better throughout the day.
