Dr. Umashankar U. S. is a distinguished Medical Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist, and Therapeutic Endoscopist, currently serving as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Sparsh Hospital, Yelahanka. With advanced training and a strong academic foundation—including a DM in Medical Gastroenterology, MD in General Medicine, MBBS, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy—he offers comprehensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and biliary disorders.

Prior to this, he was associated with GEM Hospital, Chennai, one of the largest tertiary care gastroenterology specialty centers in the country, where he gained extensive experience in managing high-volume and complex cases. His practice is centered on delivering evidence-based, patient-focused care, utilizing the latest advancements in gastroenterology to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

A gold medalist in both MD General Medicine and DM Gastroenterology, Dr. Umashankar has consistently demonstrated academic excellence throughout his medical career. Dr. Umashankar has specialized expertise in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as endoscopy with narrow band imaging, colonoscopy, polypectomy, endotherapy for gastrointestinal bleeding, ERCP, and SpyGlass cholangioscopy. He is proficient in diagnostic and interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedures, including cystogastrostomy. He also performs third-space procedures such as POEM (Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy), EMR, and ESD.

He is experienced in performing complex procedures, including luminal stenting, PEG placement, and stricture dilatation of the esophagus, pylorus, and colon.
